If you’re brand loyal to JetBlue, this is a good entry level card. Although the rewards may not be as generous as with some other JetBlue co-branded cards, there is no annual fee. The card does offer some nice perks that can enhance your flying experience and make it easier to achieve Mosaic status.

However, if you don’t fly with JetBlue regularly, you are likely to find the points accumulation a little frustrating and you may not be able to leverage the full value of the card. In this case, you would be better off with a more general travel rewards card which allows you to accumulate points or cash back on your everyday and travel purchases that you can redeem for JetBlue or other fares.

  • 0% Introductory APR
  • In Flight Discounts
  • Point Flexibility
  • $0 Fraud Liability Protection
  • No Foreign Transaction Fees
  • Limited Redemptions
  • Limited Points for Everyday Spending
  • No 0% Introductory APR for Purchases
  • No Premium Travel Benefit

Can I get pre-approved?

There is no option to obtain pre approval on the Barclays website, but Barclays may send out mailers offering pre approval to select customers.

How do I redeem rewards?

If you want to redeem your rewards you will need to log into your JetBlue account. You can then explore the points and dollar cost of various flights. You can search for flights as usual and then choose whether you want to use some or all of your points towards the fare.

How hard is it to get a JetBlue card?

You do need to have excellent credit to qualify for this card, so if you don’t have decent credit, you are likely to run into problems.

Pros and Cons

Just like any other credit card, the JetBlue credit card has some advantages and disadvantages:

Pros
Cons
0% Introductory APR
Limited Redemptions
In Flight Discounts
Limited Points for Everyday Spending
Point Flexibility
No 0% Introductory APR for Purchases
$0 Fraud Liability Protection
No Premium Travel Benefit
No Foreign Transaction Fees

Cardholdres earn 0% intro for 12 billing cycles following each balance transfer that posts to your account within 45 days of account opening. After the promotional period, the regular APR of 21.24% – 29.99% applies.

When you use your card on JetBlue flights, you can receive a 50% saving on inflight food and cocktail purchases.

You can use your purchases towards achieving a JetBlue Mosaic badge. To unlock the lowest tier badge, you need to accumulate 15,000 base points or have a combination of 12,00 base points and 30 flight segments.

At this level, you’ll receive 15,000 bonus points, which will help you to requalify in following years. The other perks include up to two free checked bags for you and your travel companions, early boarding, no change or cancellation fees, complimentary inflight beverages and bonus points when you book JetBlue flights.

In addition to points having no expiry, you can pool your points with family members to accumulate them more quickly. There are no blackout dates and you can redeem your points for any seat on any JetBlue operated flight.

The points needed for an award flight are based on the published base fares, but you can pay with a combination of points and dollars if you don’t have enough for your preferred seat or itinerary.

This card has $0 fraud liability, so you won’t be responsible for any unauthorized charges or fraudulent transactions.

You won't be charged any fees for making purchases abroad with the JetBlue credit card.

You can only redeem your points for JetBlue or partner flights. Additionally, you cannot redeem for flights with a layover, which reduces the flexibility of the program.

Although there are two points per dollar on select grocery stores, most everyday purchases will only attract one point per dollar.

This means that points will accumulate quite slowly unless you’re regularly purchasing JetBlue tickets.

While you can get 0% for 12 months on balance transfers made within 45 days of opening your account, there is no such promotional rate for purchases.

Additionally, you need to be careful to ensure that the balance transfer is posted to your account within the 45 days or you won’t receive the promo rate.

That's make sense since this is a no annual fee card, but compared to other travel credit cards – there are no benefits such as priority boarding, reimbursement for TSA Precheck or statement credits.

Who Should Consider The JetBlue Card?

Given its name, the JetBlue card is best for those who are brand loyal to this airline. If you regularly fly with JetBlue, you’re likely to appreciate the boost to Mosaic status, the in flight discounts and the rewards. If you typically fly with JetBlue at least two or three times per year, you should be able to get great value from this card. You can also consider the higher tier card of JetBlue, the JetBlue Plus card.

The card could also be a good choice if you are interested in JetBlue award flights, but primarily you want to pay down a credit card. The 0% introductory APR is a great beenfit, but bear in mind that a balance transfer fee of 5% or $5, whichever is greater will apply.

Tips for Using the JetBlue Card

As an airline and travel credit card, here are the main ways to leverage it maximize your benefits:

Although 45 days may seem like a generous window for balance transfers, Barclays is very clear that the transaction must be applied to your account within 45 days to qualify for the 0% introductory APR. So, it is best to err on the side of caution and arrange any transfers as soon as your account is opened.

In addition to getting a discount on qualifying inflight purchases, the JetBlue card does not have any foreign transaction fees. While the standard fee is 3% with many cards, these charges can quickly add up. So, make sure your JetBlue card is in your wallet when you travel.

The JetBlue card allows you to pool your points with family members, so you can accumulate points towards award flights more quickly.

FAQs

There are no official income requirements published for this card. You need excellent credit and while Barclays will assess your income, it will not be the only factor that is considered when making an approval decision.

Unfortunately, car rental insurance is not included in the JetBlue card benefits package.

This card would not be a good idea if you don’t regularly fly with JetBlue. Unless you fly with this airline several times or more per year, you will struggle to accumulate rewards and won’t be able to leverage the full value of the card benefits.

Credit Card Reviews Methodology

In order to determine the best possible credit cards, we look at things like fees, interest rates and rewards. We do this with companies that are associated with us as partners as well as other offerings. From there, we make a decision about what the best card is related to different categories and needs. We focus on interest rate cost & fees, especially the cost of carrying a balance, rewards – cards accumulate rewards in different currencies—points, miles, cash back—and their values vary widely usability – cards that accept a wide range of credit profiles and offer simple solutions for things like checking your credit score or contacting. We also consider customer reviews.

We look at cards related to good or excellent credit ratings that will then provide a range of different benefits and improvements for someone who has these scores. We also look at low fees when it comes to those who have lower credit scores.
