The Frontier Airlines World Mastercard is a credit card designed to cater to frequent flyers and loyal customers of Frontier Airlines. As a co-branded card, it offers various benefits and rewards tailored specifically to enhance the travel experience with the airline.

With the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard, cardholders can earn miles for every purchase made, both on and off the airline. These miles can be redeemed for flights, seat upgrades, and other travel-related expenses. Cardholders can enjoy a range of exclusive perks such as priority boarding, flight discount, account pooling and FICO score access.

Although the Frontier network may not be as large as some other airlines, if you live near a hub or focus city, the Frontier Airlines mastercard could be a good option for you.

  • Flexible Redemptions
  • Travel Together Ticket
  • Statement Credit
  • Discounted British Airways Flights
  • Visa Signature Benefits
  • No Free Checked Bags
  • No Lounge Access
  • Poor Rewards Outside BA
  • Subject to the Chase 5/24 Rule

What are card income requirements?

There are no official income requirements for this card, but you do need good to excellent credit. Although Barclays will evaluate your income, this is not the only factor that is considered when making an approval decision.

Can I get pre-approved?

Barclays does not feature a pre approval option on its website, but the bank does occasionally send out mailers and other promotional material offering pre approval for this and other credit cards.

How do I redeem rewards?

If you want to redeem your miles, you will need to log into your Frontier account and search for flights as usual. You will then see a miles cost along with a cash price. You can then choose to use your miles to pay for your airfare.

Pros and Cons

Just like any other credit card, the Frontier Airlines credit card has some advantages and disadvantages:

Pros
Cons
0% Introductory APR
Miles Expire
Earn Towards Your Elite Status
No Free Checked Bags
$100 Flight Voucher
Limited Flexibility for Rewards
Award Redemption Fee Waiver
Family Pooling
Priority Boarding
Choose Your Own Card Design

Cardholdres earn 0% intro for 15 months on balance transfers made within 45 days of account opening. After the promotional period, the regular APR of 21.24% – 29.99% applies.

Each qualifying mile you earn with your Frontier Airlines card will count towards earning your elite status. This can provide a boost for those who are struggling to qualify for or maintain status.

The lowest tier is Elite 20K, which requires 25 flight segments or 20,000 qualifying miles during the calendar year. It offers a variety of benefits including free carry on bags and free seat assignments.

If you spend $2,500 or more throughout the card membership year, you’ll receive a $100 flight voucher on every account anniversary.

This voucher can be used for Frontier airfare booked through the Frontier website, but it cannot be used for fees. The voucher expires six months after issue, but you can book a flight that takes place after the expiration date.

When you book award tickets and use your Frontier Airlines card to pay the associated fees and taxes, Frontier will waive the award redemption fee.

You won't be charged any fees for making purchases abroad with the Iberia Visa Signature Card.

You can share miles with family members and friends to make it easier to reach mileage redemptions. You can redeem miles with no blackout dates, but you do need to make at least one purchase every 12 months to ensure that your unused miles don’t expire.

Unlike many loyalty programs, the miles for the Frontier Airlines program expire if there are 12 months of inactivity. As a comparison, the Delta SkyMiles miles do not expire according to the expiration policy.

This means that you need to make at least one purchase each year to prevent your unused miles from expiring and this is shorter range compared to other airlines loyalty programs.

Although you can get free carry on bags if you reach the lowest elite status tier, there are no free checked bags. This is unusual with an airline co-branded card.

If you’re not within the Frontier network, you may have difficulty redeeming your miles.

Unlike other companies such as Delta or United redemption options,  Frontier has a relatively small presence and there are no partner airlines to transfer your miles to.

As a cardmember, you’ll receive Zone 2 priority boarding, which is displayed on your boarding pass provided that you add your membership number to the reservation.

Zone 2 boarding occurs after Zone 1 passengers, elite status members, military passengers, those with disabilities and passengers with children under the age of five.

These cards are made using 85% recycled material and this eco conscious theme is carried over into the card designs. You can choose from five animal designs featuring endangered species.

Who Should Consider The Frontier Card?

If you’re based near one of the Frontier hubs or focus cities, this card could be a good fit for you. Although there are no partner networks, Frontier is a low cost carrier that has itineraries between the cities of Denver, Atlanta, Cleveland, Chicago, Miami, Las Vegas, Tampa, Orlando, Trenton and Philadelphia. There are also flights to Canada, the Caribbean, Mexico and parts of Central America.

So, if you regularly fly from the serviced area, you could enjoy an enhanced flying experience and some decent rewards. The card could also be a good choice for those who are carrying a card balance. If you make any balance transfers within 45 days of opening your account, you can enjoy 0% APR.

Tips for Using the Frontier Card

As an airline and travel credit card, here are the main ways to leverage it maximize your benefits:

When you make a flight reservation, be sure to include your membership number on your booking. This will ensure that your Zone 2 priority boarding is printed on your boarding pass.

There is a spending requirement to qualify for the flight voucher. So, monitor your spending to ensure that your spending hits at least $2,500 throughout the year.

You need to make at least one purchase every 12 months to prevent your unused miles from expiring.

While the standard foreign transaction fee of 3% may seem negligible, it can quickly add up when you’re on vacation abroad. However, there are no foreign transaction fees with this card, so it is a good one to carry in your wallet when you’re traveling.

FAQs

Apart from needing good to excellent credit, there are no obvious barriers to qualify for this card. So, if you have decent credit, you shouldn’t have any particular issues getting the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard.

This card is not a good idea if you don’t live near the Frontier hub or focus cities. If you need to transfer to fly from one of these cities, you will quickly negate the card benefits.

Unfortunately, the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard does not provide car rental insurance coverage.

Credit Card Reviews Methodology

In order to determine the best possible credit cards, we look at things like fees, interest rates and rewards. We do this with companies that are associated with us as partners as well as other offerings. From there, we make a decision about what the best card is related to different categories and needs. We focus on interest rate cost & fees, especially the cost of carrying a balance, rewards – cards accumulate rewards in different currencies—points, miles, cash back—and their values vary widely usability – cards that accept a wide range of credit profiles and offer simple solutions for things like checking your credit score or contacting. We also consider customer reviews.

We look at cards related to good or excellent credit ratings that will then provide a range of different benefits and improvements for someone who has these scores. We also look at low fees when it comes to those who have lower credit scores.
