If you’re completely brand loyal to the T.J Maxx group, you may be tempted to consider the co-branded credit card. However, this card has very few advantages and some serious downsides. While you can earn points towards rewards certificates to spend in store, there are very few other card benefits.

The only real perk outside of the rewards is access to exclusive shopping events. So, unless this is a large priority for you, you are likely to find that there are other credit cards on the market that represent better value.

The T.J Maxx credit card has a far higher than average APR and meager rewards on everyday purchases. Many other $0 annual fee cards offer more ongoing rewards, which you can then redeem for gift cards or cash that you can then spend in T.J Maxx stores. So, the exclusive shopping event access is the only thing you’ll miss out on.

  • Store Rewards
  • Private Shopping Events
  • Zero Liability Protection
  • Access to Global Services
  • No Cash Options
  • No Replacement Certificates
  • Limited Benefits
  • Very High APR

What are card income requirements?

There are no official income requirements for the card, but you do need to have fair to good credit. This means that while your income is considered, it is not the only factor when an approval decision is being made.

When it may not be a good idea?

The card is not a good idea if you tend to carry a balance or you’re interested in getting maximum rewards. Apart from the initial discount and access to exclusive shopping events, there are many other $0 annual fee cards that offer more generous rewards and benefits. So, unless you are highly brand loyal, in most scenarios, this card is not a good idea.

Simulation: How Much Rewards You Can Earn?

Take a look at the table below to see how many points you can get by using the T.J Maxx credit card. The table shows an estimate of the points you could earn based on your usual spending in different categories.

Remember that this table is just an approximation, and the points you actually earn may be different due to your spending habits and other factors. However, it gives you a good idea of the potential advantages of this card.

Pros and Cons

Just like any other credit card, the T.J Maxx credit card has some advantages and disadvantages:

Cons
Store Rewards
No Cash Options
Private Shopping Events
No Replacement Certificates
Zero Liability Protection
Limited Benefits
Access to Global Services
Very High APR

Cardholders earn 5x back on purchases within the T.J Maxx group including Marshalls, Homesense and HomeGoods. 1x cash back on all other purchases.

As a cardholder, you can receive invitations to exclusive events for shopping both in store and online. This provides you with an opportunity to access merchandise before it is available to general customers. Depending on the specific event, there may also be prizes or treats up for grabs.

This is a fairly standard feature on most credit cards, but it is still nice to know that you will not be held responsible for any unauthorized or fraudulent charges that are made on your card account.

You can obtain emergency assistance at any time, in any language and from anywhere. Whether you need to report a stolen or lost card and need an emergency card replacement or simply need to find an ATM, you’ll find the team ready to answer any questions related to your account.

When you reach 1,000 points, you’ll receive a $10 certificate in the mail with your monthly statement. Unfortunately, you can only use these statements in store and there is no way to exchange them for cash.

While the certificates are inflexible, they are also irreplaceable. If your reward certificate is lost or stolen, it will not be replaced.

The card does have a couple of perks, but they are very limited. The main benefit is that you can access exclusive shopping events. If you are interested in a rewards card, you will often find a far more impressive suite of benefits offered.

Although it is common for store branded cards to carry a high rate, the T.J Maxx credit card has a very high rate that is far higher than the typical credit card rates.

Tips for Using the TJX Rewards Platinum Mastercard

Although this card is very simple, there are a couple of tips that can help you to get the most value from it. These include:

Since you get 10% off your first order as a welcome bonus, you need to make this worth your while.

Fortunately, there is no maximum spend for this offer, so if you’ve applied for a new card, it is a great time to plan for your change of season wardrobe or those home items you’ve been waiting to purchase.

This is good advice for any credit card, but it is particularly applicable for the T.J Maxx credit card, since it has such a high APR. With the current national average credit card APR at about 20%, this card has a rate that is over 50% more.

FAQs

Unfortunately, there is no option for pre approval, but T.J Maxx may periodically send out mailers or other promotional material offering pre approval for select customers.

Your reward points are accumulated and reward certificates are issued in $10 and $20 respectively with monthly statements. You’ll need 1,000 or 2,000 points respectively for the $10 or $20 certificates. Once you receive your reward certificate, you can then spend it in store or when you shop online within the T.J Maxx group.

While you do need to have fair to good credit to qualify for this card, there are no other requirements or stipulations. This means that provided that you have reasonable credit, you should have no great difficulty getting the T.J Maxx credit card.

Credit Card Reviews Methodology

In order to determine the best possible credit cards, we look at things like fees, interest rates and rewards. We do this with companies that are associated with us as partners as well as other offerings. From there, we make a decision about what the best card is related to different categories and needs. We focus on interest rate cost & fees, especially the cost of carrying a balance, rewards – cards accumulate rewards in different currencies—points, miles, cash back—and their values vary widely usability – cards that accept a wide range of credit profiles and offer simple solutions for things like checking your credit score or contacting. We also consider customer reviews.

We look at cards related to good or excellent credit ratings that will then provide a range of different benefits and improvements for someone who has these scores. We also look at low fees when it comes to those who have lower credit scores.
