Good - Excellent

If you’re a regular shopper at BJ’s the BJ’s One+ Mastercard could be a good option for you. While you can’t redeem your rewards outside of BJ’s, you can accumulate rewards in store and with other vendors and brands.

With no annual fee and access to exclusive events, there really is no downside to this card. However, if you are interested in earning maximum rewards and would prefer more flexible reward redemption, you may want to consider alternative reward card options. There are many no annual fee reward credit cards that allow you to earn cash back, which you can redeem for statement credit, direct deposit payments, gift cards and more.

So, you’ll need to carefully consider whether you would get the benefits of BJ’s redemptions or if you would prefer to look elsewhere.

  • 0% Introductory APR
  • Anniversary Companion Certificate
  • Free First Checked Bags
  • Preferred Boarding
  • No Foreign Transaction Fees
  • Statement Credit for Inflight Purchases
  • Travel Insurance
  • High Annual Fee
  • No Bonus Categories
  • Low Rewards Rate
  • High APR

What are card income requirements?

There are no official income requirements for the card, but you do need to have good to excellent credit to qualify for this card. This means that while Capital One will evaluate your income, it is not the only consideration for application approval decisions.

Can I get pre-approved?

There is no pre approval option for this card, but you may receive mailers or other promotional materials offering pre approval to select BJ’s customers.

How do I redeem rewards?

Once you reach or exceed the $10 minimum redemption threshold, you can redeem your rewards at checkout when you shop inside a BJ’s club location or via the BJs website. Your rewards will be applied to the total at the time of purchase and you can then pay the remaining balance with your preferred payment method.

Estimating Your Rewards: A Practical Simulation

Figuring out the exact rewards you'll receive from the card is tricky because it depends on how you use it, whether it's your primary or secondary card, or if you only use it for certain types of purchases.

But don't worry, we've done some calculations to give you an idea of what you could earn with this BJ's One+ Mastercard. We looked at common spending categories like groceries, travel, and dining, and based on typical expenses in each category, we estimated your total rewards.

Pros and Cons

Like any standard credit card, the BJ's One+ Mastercard has its own advantages and disadvantages:

Pros
Cons
High Rewards Rate For BJ Customers
BJs Reward Redemptions Only
BJs Gas Discount
Not All Purchases Earn Rewards
Automatic Membership Renewal
Consequences if You Change Your Membership Level
Cardholder Exclusives

If you do your supermarket purchases on BJ as well as additional purchases, you can get a high rewards rate from this card compared to many other retailers cards.

As a cardholder, you can enjoy 15 cents off per gallon when you purchase fuel at BJs Gas with your card.

Since BJs gas is already competitively priced, this could represent a massive saving for many people, particularly considering the uncertainty of gas prices in recent months

You need to have a BJ’s The Club+ Card Membership to have the BJ’s One+ Mastercard. This does have an annual membership cost, currently $110.

However, you can enroll in BJ’s Easy Renewal, for automatic membership renewal. This means that you don’t need to set a reminder to renew your membership or risk losing your cardholder privileges

As a cardholder, you can receive extra savings and offers which are exclusively and especially available for BJ One+ customers. This includes the potential to earn additional rewards in Bonus Earnings events that are exclusive for cardholders.

While it is not unusual for a store co-branded card, your reward redemptions are limited to BJs in-store or online purchases.

This means that you can’t redeem your rewards for statement credit against charges on your card. You simply have to use them on your next BJ shopping trip.

While you can earn rewards on purchases at BJs, not all items qualify. There are some exceptions that will not earn you any rewards.

These include cigarettes or tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, gift cards, lottery tickets and propane.

If you change your membership level, your card may be automatically downgraded to the corresponding card.

If you cancel your membership completely, you can continue to earn rewards and use your card, but you’ll incur a 20% surcharge on your purchases.

Who Should Consider The BJ’s One+ Mastercard?

Since this is a co-branded card, it is best suited for those who are brand loyal to BJ’s and tend to shop there regularly. Although you can earn rewards on other purchases, the highest reward tier is reserved for purchases at BJ’s stores and when you shop using the BJ’s website.

The card could also be a good option for those who want to accumulate rewards for larger shops throughout the year. Even if you don’t visit BJ’s regularly, you can earn rewards with your everyday shopping and then redeem your rewards at BJ’s.

If you are looking for a co-branded shopping card, in the table below you can see some of the alternatives:

Tips for the BJ’s One+ Mastercard

Although the BJ’s One+ Mastercard is quite straightforward, there are a few tips that can help you get the most from your new card. These include:

You need to have a BJ’s membership to qualify for this card and if you allow your membership to lapse, you’ll incur a 20% non member surcharge, which will more than negate your card rewards.

So, sign up for Easy Renewal, so your membership will automatically renew and you won’t need to think about it.

This should go without saying, but make sure that you call in at the BJ’s Gas every time you visit the store. When you pay with your card, you’ll get a discount per gallon, which will save you even more money.

Since your rewards will not expire, why not accumulate them for an occasion when you can get the most value. Keep an eye out for exclusive Bonus Earnings events, when you can not only earn more rewards, but stock up using your accumulated rewards.

FAQs

You do need to have good to excellent credit to qualify for this card, but there are no other applicant requirements. So, if you have decent credit, you shouldn’t have any major difficulties getting this card.

This card is not a good idea if you don’t shop at BJ’s frequently enough to offset the higher tier membership cost. It is also not a good idea if you don’t tend to spend the most at BJ’s.

If you typically shop elsewhere, there are many other no annual fee credit cards that offer similar or more rewards on your everyday purchases. This could represent greater rewards value for you and you’ll have greater redemption flexibility.

Unfortunately, while you can access complimentary professional travel services via World Mastercard, the BJ’s One+ Mastercard does not provide travel insurance coverage.

Credit Card Reviews Methodology

In order to determine the best possible credit cards, we look at things like fees, interest rates and rewards. We do this with companies that are associated with us as partners as well as other offerings. From there, we make a decision about what the best card is related to different categories and needs. We focus on interest rate cost & fees, especially the cost of carrying a balance, rewards – cards accumulate rewards in different currencies—points, miles, cash back—and their values vary widely usability – cards that accept a wide range of credit profiles and offer simple solutions for things like checking your credit score or contacting. We also consider customer reviews.

We look at cards related to good or excellent credit ratings that will then provide a range of different benefits and improvements for someone who has these scores. We also look at low fees when it comes to those who have lower credit scores.
